Sugar is ubiquitous, lurking in processed foods that are frequently advertsied on television. But when you want true nourishment, where you do you go? Intermedia Arts' first artist-in-residence, Robert Farid Karimi, is on it. His long-term theater project while at the gallery is called Diabetes of Democracy, which focuses on type-two diabetes in communities of color. He does this through political discussion, live cooking, documentary-style film, and humor. This Wednesday, he is hosting a community potluck. Rather than picking something up at a drive-through window, everyone is encouraged to make a dish to bring, along with the recipe. The theme of the event is "what fuels you," so share food that you find energizing. The potluck should add a fab social element to the daily task of preparing food, and spotlight the efforts of those who cook within the community. If you don't have time, bring something that no pantry should be without. Some of Karimi's requests include dried goods, including dried lemons, and spices.
