In 2006, Intermedia Arts merged with noted local literary organization SASE: The Write Place. For over thirteen years, SASE worked to make the literary arts accessible to a diverse community of writers and literary enthusiasts. Intermedia Arts is proud to have added SASE’s literary programs, including the Beyond the Pure Fellowships for Writers (formerly the SASE Jerome Grants for Emerging Writers), to our multi-disciplinary roster, as we have always been committed to supporting those voices, stories, artists and art forms that all too often remain unheard in our society.
Since 1997, the Beyond the Pure Fellowships for Writers (formerly the SASE Jerome Grants for Emerging Writers) have made it possible for nearly 100 writers from a wide variety of backgrounds to study with master teachers, travel to honor and learn from their elders in distant countries, bring their work to publication, achieve recognition through other fellowship opportunities, teach, and most importantly, to keep writing.
Intermedia Arts strives to serve emerging artists by providing the resources, support, skills, and community necessary to achieve that next step of their artistic career-path. We work to provide a context for artists to delve deeply into their process, purpose, and role as creator.
For 2011, we have added new aspects to each of our grant programs in order to allow them to serve artists even more fully, and to both broaden and deepen the impact of our programs on artists and the creative communities of which they are a part.
This program is made possible, in part, thanks to the generous support of the Jerome Foundation.
