    Hosted by Carol Connolly. Featured readers are contributors to Cost of Freedom: The Anthology of Peace & Activism from Howling Dog Press, including:

    HENRY BECHTHOLD, author of Right Wing Politics and Religion: The Unholy Alliance Exposed, is founder of Inner City Outreach, which provides new clothing for the poor and homeless.


    Leigh Herrick

    LEIGH HERRICK, poet, writer, and collaborator, has performed in the Minnesota Fringe Festival; Open Book’s Tellabration; and Spirit in the House Festival. Her essays, music and poetry have been widely published in a variety of electronic and print journals, including The Texas Observer. Her poetry CD is Just War. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, she is a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee and the recipient of numerous poetry awards.


    Stefanie Hollmichel
    STEFANIE HOLLMICHEL is a writer who keeps a blog called So Many Books, has Masters in English Literature, and is a student in Library and Information Science. She works as a techie for Tubman-Chrysalis.

    CHANTE WOLF spent 12 years in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield/Storm. She holds degrees in Anthropology and Women’s Studies, and is now pursuing photography as she works to preserve the planet and to challenge many Americans’ perception of war and its never ending costs.

    Featuring:
    MORGAN GRAYCE WILLOW’s memoir about her mother, Riding Shotgun for Stanley Home Products, is the title piece in Riding Shotgun: Women Write about Their Mothers published by Borealis Books in April 2008. Poet as well as essayist, Morgan has received Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowships in both poetry and prose; she has also received a Loft-McKnight Award for her poetry. Morgan’s essays and memoirs have appeared in: Third Coast, The Tactile Mind: Literary Magazine of the Signing Community, A View From the Loft, The Bloomsbury Review, The Forum, Queerly Classed, A History of Women Philosophers, among others. Her second poetry chapbook, Arpeggio of Appetite, was chosen by Finishing Line Press for its New Women’s Voices Series and published in 2005. A fine letterpress chapbook, The Maps are Words, will be published by Red Dragonfly Press in 2008. Formerly an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter, Morgan received a translation grant from The Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry and published Crossing That Bridge, a guide for making literary events accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences in 2000. She teaches at Minneapolis Community & Technical College, as well as The Loft Literary Center where she has been a Loft Teaching Fellow.

    KATE LYNN HIBBARD’s first book of poems, Sleeping Upside Down, won the Gerald Cable Book Award and was nominated for the Audre Lorde Poetry Prize. Her poems and essays are published and forthcoming in numerous journals and anthologies, including Bloom, Woman Wonderlands, and Prairie Schooner. Other honors include a Loft McKnight Artist Fellowship in Poetry, a Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship, and a grant from the Astraea Foundation Lesbian Writers Fund. She teaches English at Minneapolis Community and Technical College and lives in St. Paul with her partner, two pugs, and two cats.

    KELLY BARNHILL is a writer, teacher, and mom living in Minneapolis. Her work (fiction and nonfiction; speculative, literary, and otherwise) has appeared (or is forthcoming) in The Rake, the Sun, Fantasy, Common Ties, Stonewritings, and Nightshade Books. She has received grants and mentorships from the Jerome Foundation, Intermedia Arts, and the Loft.
