About the Artist
Santiago Zarzosa, a European artist, was born in Valladolid, Spain and has been living and working in the U.S.A. since 1997. He has exhibited in numerous galleries in Minnesota and had a show in SoHo, Manhattan, New York City in 2005. He has collaborated with many artists in the USA and Spain. Since moving to the States, he has explored new creative avenues and developed a group of collectors.
Zarzosa lived in northern Spain until he was 10 years old when his family moved to the warm Mediterranean Sea, to the City of Murcia. Murcia is a desert-like land, but is full of fruits and vegetables. Citrus, oranges, peaches, and almond trees grow throughout the valley. The summers in the Mediterranean are filled with warm colors like oranges & yellows from the bright sun, the sand, and the desert, and also intense blues from the sea. These landscapes inspire and influence his work.
Zarzosa started drawing and painting as a child, and began an interest in museums and art galleries at a young age. He took art classes at school, including Art Drawing, Painting and Technical Drawing. He graduated with an Advertising School Degree in Madrid and also took advanced drawing classes with master Hakim Alsani. In Minneapolis he continued his education attending classes at Macalester and MCAD colleges.
Zarzosa has many influences from artists all over the world but he learned something from the Spanish masters like El Greco, Velázquez, Goya, Murillo, Picasso, Dali, Tapies, and Barceló, and learned that life is there for you to discover and that there is always a better painting to do: the next one.
