| Aruna Vermeulen is a 30 year old b-girl from Rotterdam, a city in the Netherlands, known for its rich bboy culture. Aruna has been breaking since 1998, when she was introduced to the game by her crew Freezone, where she learned the foundation. As most of the Freezone members are old skool bboys, they aren't as active as they used to be, Aruna practices with the new skool generation which resulted in a formation called Optima Forma, doing performances, workshops and battles. Highlighs are their shows at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and a tour for the Dutch Queen in 2005.
Aruna is devoted to HipHop in many ways: She's one of the founders of the HipHopHuis, an educational centre for HipHop in Rotterdam. On top of that, she's reponsible for the bboy jam 'Gimme a Break', which are being held in Nighttown since 1999. Inspired by b-girls like Rokafella, Angi and Dora, Aruna is a fan of the athletic element in breaking. Her goal is to be breaking for another decade, but to be a b-girl for life... |
