I’m a Southside Minneapolis girl. My greatest love is working with youth and I’m very fortunate to lead a youth program in the amazing Waite House in the Phillips Community. Amongst many other passions photography and music are ranked right up at the top as well. I love how all three intersect and influence one another: youth culture, music, and art. As a photographer, I create imagery of vibrant urban landscapes. One great fascination of mine is the markings left by women, or markings that represent them. I seek out the histories of women placed in the urban landscape and capture these imageries through photographs. Just as Hip Hop culture, you may have to search a little longer or a bit harder to find the stories and traditions of women left in the urban backcloth. But they are there. I find them in aerosol graf, stencils, fliers, wheat pasted posters. The representation that proves we were here, in the grind, alongside our male counterparts. Women are creating, organizing and sharing everywhere.
