I am a Mexican poet, educator, activist and mother from Mexico City, Mexico. I came to Minnesota in the 1970's and I have lived in California, South Dakota, Guatemala, northern Mexico, and Chiapas,in southern Mexico. After working with and interviewing indigenous women, I wrote a book of testimonials, "Never Again A World Without Us, Voices of Maya Women in Chiapas, Mexico," EPICA, 2001. Presently, I work with Latino immigrants at the Centro de Derechos Laborales (Immigrant Workers' Rights Center), at the Resource Center of the Americas. A bilingual writer, I try to paint what I hear and see, listening to the stories of indigenous people and of immigrants in the US. I have participated in Latino and Latin American writers' workshops and collectives. I have been a member of a Latin American writers collective, Calibanes, with whom I have written poems and short stories in Spanish. For the last three years I have been a member of the Latino spoken word artist collective, Palabristas, with whom I have performed in many different venues in the Twin Cities. Two of my poems were published in the poetry collection "Under What Bandera? Anti-War Ofrendas from Minnesota and Califas."

Soy una poeta, educadora, activista y madre mexicana. Nací en la Ciudad de México, vine por primera vez a Minnesota en los años '70s, y he vivido además en los estados de California y South Dakota, en Guatemala, Centro América, en el norte y en el sur de México. En este lugar, en el estado de Chiapas, trabajé con comunidades indígenas y recopilé testimonios para un libro: "Never Again a World Without Us, Voices of Maya Women in Chiapas, Mexico", EPICA, 2001. Desde hace seis años que trabajo con inmigrantes latinos en el Centro de Derechos Laborales del Centro de las Américas (Resource Center of the Americas). En mi poesía, en español o inglés, trato de retratar lo que escucho y miro, las historias de la gente indígena e inmigrante. Participo en talleres y colectivos de escritores: con un colectivo de escritores latinoamericanos, Calibán; y con Palabristas, un grupo de artistas latinos de poesía y palabra hablada. He presentado mis poesías en diferentes centros de las Ciudades Gemelas. Dos de mis poemas están incluidos en la colección "Under What Bandera? Anti-War Ofrendas from Minnesota y Califas."
