Heba Amin (Selection Panelist)

Heba Amin was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt where she attended a private American school. She came to the United States to attend college and study painting. Her work addresses her identity as a contemporary Arab woman and explores different aspects of the Egyptian culture. The urge to portray the Egyptian culture from her viewpoint increases as the media conveys certain negative stereotypes of Arabs. Images reaching Americans are mostly of a political nature; therefore, through her paintings, Heba wants to arouse the viewer and further stimulate their interest in learning about her culture. Her artworks have been exhibited as part of Immigrant Status: Ndigmbe and Immigrant Status: Faith In Women. As a member of the Moving Lives Speakers Bureau, she speaks on contemporary Egyptian and Middle Eastern culture, Bedouin Culture, Women in the Middle East.
