 "I consider my work to be transnational and intertextual. I am very interested in the Korean diaspora and the subjectivities beneath the official master narratives, whether Korean, North American, Japanese, Chinese, etc. I am a Korean immigrant and represent the intimacy and exchanges between the United States and the Korean peninsula in the 20th century. My poetics involves an ongoing investigation of that living history. My work tends to foreground the various labors of women and children, from sex work and marriage and maternity to adoption and what I call "the labor of innocence", or the performativity of childhood." --Sun Yung Shin |
