Aksana Muratalieva was born in Kygyzstan during the period of Soviet rule and witnessed dramatic upheaval when the Kyrgyz Republic gained independent nation status in 1991. She has a university degree in English and, prior to coming to the US, worked as interpreter and secretary to the Kyrgyz ambassador to India. Aksana believes that the innermost beauty and complexity of the human soul is mirrored in arts. Presenting a glimpse of the ancient Kyrgyz culture, Aksana invites her audiences on an exploratory journey into the importance of native culture and heritage in retaining a strong sense of self-identity. She also strives to dispel the misguided stereotypes that Americans typically hold about the former Soviet Union. |
