Lucy Smith, artist, educator and Holocaust survivor, was born and raised in Poland, where during her childhood she learned what hate does to people. Lucy Smith was a hidden child. The "hidden" children of the Holocaust who survived it, grew into adulthood but were still forced to keep their childhood memories hidden. After the war, Lucy Smith studied art and obtained an MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. But the combination of still existing anti-semitism and the oppression of communism led to her departure from Poland and subsequent life in three cultures--France, Germany and finally the USA. She has used these experiences in her work with refugees and in her public speaking.
