Born in Hong Kong, Marcus grew up in Iowa and studied music and theater in Minnesota. With an interdisciplinary and unconventional approach to art, he explores direct human interaction and the ordinary wonder inherent in every person. In his talks he interacts with his audience. This engagement, like his works of art, investigates shared acts of equality.

For Marcus, the art of living is realizing that art is "everyone, everywhere and everyday." In our complex modern lives, he offers simple reminders of what it means to be human, and challenges us to see the inspiration and dignity in abundance in everyone. He is currently Artist-in-Residence for the city of St. Paul where he helps to incorporate the arts into the daily workings of city-building. Marcus travels often to China and follows the contemporary Chinese arts scene.
