Naked Stages I

Draw Two Circles
by Aamera Siddiqui and Suzy Messerole
Directed by Meena Natarajan

Draw Two Circles tells the parallel journeys of two extremely different women growing up in very religious households, both of whom suffer consequences for living outside the limits established by their religions. They are white, South Asian, lesbian, straight, Catholic and Muslim and they’re each trying to live and love in multiple circles. Yet they spend most of their time somewhere in between—in a chasm created when identity, faith, family and societal expectations collide. Join them on a journey where encounters with Eve, Hegar and other ‘cast out’ women of the Quran and the Bible intertwine with Bollywood, Queen songs and moments of redemption in an undying determination to somehow make it all work.

Case Study no. 11,292 Chronic Regeneration
by Britta Hallin
Mentorship and direction by Krista Kelley Walsh

Be a spider on the web I have spun. Open your senses to the crystallizations of my life: thirty years of infinity unraveling in physicality, space, and time. Through thick air, you will encounter layers of stories revealing themselves. Within a delicate mist of density, you will discover yourself, with me, uncovering where I have been. As I shatter fragility, you will feel vibration of many sounds near and far. From immense darkness, I will lift from vulnerability and swallow pills of wings. We will inhale faint scents of smoke from exhaled flames of dancing fire. We will find surprise within ourselves. Our hearts will invite us to live with lightness in the mysterious truth of the unknown. Maybe we will agree to meet there.

Naked Stages II

La Sistina Infinita
by The Unruly Julies
Directed by Hijack: Kristen Van Loon and Arwen Wilder

The Unruly Julies, performance painting duo JAO and Giuliana, will attempt a reproduction of the Sistine Ceiling. In a dangerous display of artistic ability, athletic skill and absolute recklessness, the biblical stories so brilliantly executed by Michelangelo Buonarroti will be revisited, re-examined and maybe even revised. The Creation, The Fall, The Flood, prophets, sybils and the ancestors of Christ will all be painted live and in color. La Sistina Infinita is about exploration of one’s culture as it relates to religion. It is art about making art. It is about creativity and speed, deadlines and the importance of doing what you really want.

The Shredding
by Josie Winship
Coach: Laurie VanWieren

What happens when a twenty-year relationship ends and you have a paper shredder, tap shoes and a ukulele? With humor and compassion, Josie Winship takes us on a personal, transformative journey from loss to renewal. The Shredding uses song, raw visuals, movement, dance and a paper shredder to attempt to understand and restructure her life.

Meditative, reflective, crazy, tender, wrenching and funny, it's all in this authentic performance, which ends in a universal celebration of the power of the creative spirit when faced with heartbreak. It's not therapy, it's life!
