Internship: Creative CityMaking Events and Promotions

TIME REQUIRED: Flexible/Part Time (20 to 30 hours/month)
START DATE: January 2016 (immediate start date)
END DATE: June 2016 with the potential to extend into 2017
STATUS: Paid Stipend  $100/month

POSITION PURPOSE: To assist in Creative CityMaking (CCM), a multi-year, arts-based innovation initiative within Minneapolis City government designed to advance City priorities through in-depth collaborations between City departments and highly skilled community artists. The aim of the program is to deepen the understanding of how arts-based engagement approaches can strengthen connections between City government and the communities the City serves. It is an opportunity for a rising leader to build professional skills while forwarding a dynamic network of innovative, cross-sector leaders and collaborations addressing the social justice issues through the arts. The ideal candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and be a proactive, resourceful, efficient and adaptive contributor to the work. POSITION TITLE: Creative CityMaking Event and Promotions Intern
REPORTS TO: Creative CityMaking Site Manager

  • Event assistance and logistics to CCM artists including staffing events, set up, breakdown, hospitality, conducting surveys, record keeping and more
  • Basic graphic design assistance to teams for event flyers, handouts and print materials for meetings and events
  • Potential event planning and promotions assistance to CCM artist teams including: Writing recaps of events, promotions, and event tracking via social media
  • Maintaining a CCM event calendar for all artist teams
  • Maintaining inventory of CCM event hosting supplies and materials
  • Brainstorming creative, fun, and unique event ideas and promotional items
  • Event documentation as needed including note taking, photography, video, and more  


  • Well-organized, communicative, and creative person needed to assist in efforts around Creative CityMaking.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work independently and in a fast paced diverse community and team environment.
  • Interest in arts-based community development. Experience and knowledge with Microsoft Office and some interest and/or experience working with Adobe Illustrator or Publisher for basic graphic design are a must.
  • Business/professional writing skills beneficial but not required. Access to reliable transportation and can be available for an average of 2-3 events per month during the day and/or evening/weekends.

Front Desk Administrative Support

Do you have 4 hours per week or per month you'd like to contribute to an amazing organization dedicated to social change and healthy communities? Are you available weekday mornings or afternoons? This is a great opportunity to add experience to your resume and reference list. Plus, Intermedia Arts is totally fun and loves volunteers!

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in filing paperwork
  • Cleaning public spaces
  • Front desk support  
  • Customer service
  • Organizing and upkeep of storage spaces
  • Occasional web updates
  • Data entry
  • Assisting with special projects as they come up
  • Other duties as assigned  

Applicants should enjoy working in an office setting, have exceptional organizing skills, be punctual, efficient, and able to take direction. Some prior understanding of office software for Mac computers preferred, including Excel and Word.
