Santiago Zarzosa
Illustrating Action: A Retrospective Exhibit
In early Spring of 2008, Santiago Zarzosa brought the politics of Latin America to life through his strong concepts and brilliant visual representations for the annual Political Theatre Festival, presented by Teatro del Pueblo and Intermedia Arts. Zarzosa’s artwork has been the face of the Political Theatre Festival since its inception. This retrospective collection of conceptual drawings and final paintings allows us to reflect on the themes presented over the past seven years.
Zarzosa’s paintings for Teatro Del Pueblo and Intermedia Arts provided the opportunity to better understand the lives of people in a single image; the fist. It represents the anger and frustration of the people looking for answers and justice. The series of paintings have covered immigration, identity, justice, law and order. Zarzosa has shown a commitment to visually communicate the intrinsic message of the plays year after year.
