Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad of the BodyCartography Project at Intermedia Arts.
CAROLINE PALMER
Thursday-Sunday: Olive Bieringa and Otto Ramstad of the BodyCartography Project often use dance and multimedia performance to examine complex cultural, scientific and philosophical concepts. Their latest project, "Symptom," features Ramstad and his twin, visual artist Emmett Ramstad, in a evening-length exploration of the human body. This work seeks to go beyond the boundaries of biology, however, to consider the many interpretations placed upon the body by society. Sculpture, drawing, movement and text all combine with a sound score composed by electro-acoustic instrumentalist Andrea Parkins for a mind-bending meditation on the messages and meanings generated from the physical being.
