The G.A.M.E.
Mentor/Artist-in-Residence: JoJo
JoJo has been a strong advocate for empowering youth and young adults through art for the last 15 years. He has been an active mentor and role model and has worked with Intermedia arts and other nonprofit artist organizations since 1994. He is considered to be one of the area's most influential and pioneering artists within the graffiti art/hip hop culture since picking up a spray can 21 years ago. His artistic endeavors have led him to a successful career as a commercial muralist, working with many Fortune 500 companies including Best Buy, General Mills and All State Insurance. He has had multiple gallery showings nationwide and has been a featured artist in over 100 magazines and books. He has lectured at colleges and high schools on the history and culture of the art-form.
JoJo continues to work with local businesses to build positive relationships/partnerships between the artists and business owners. The G.A.M.E. is a joint venture and vision between JoJo and Intermedia Arts. It is JoJo’s belief that bringing purpose and positive intent to the program will further the liberation and acceptance of the art-form and bring the concept of a shared world within the community. It is only with this shared philosophy that the general public’s multi-faceted social and economic dynamic can be examined and openly challenged. The goal, in his words, is not to make everyone happy, but to educate on the power and beauty of the art-form and the conviction and passion of its artists. He seeks to serve not only as an ambassador and intermediary between the artists and the public audience, but also to bring recognition to emerging artists and promote understanding between opposing communities. He also seeks to elevate the skill level of the local talent through mentoring, education and instruction.
